Are you leading your life aligned with your values, strengths, joy and purpose? Truly, how many of us could answer this with a resounding, bold, confident yes rather than a sarcastic survival mode response that thinks it is for the dreamers not reality? If you are not living this way, is it because you are too busy, it doesn’t feel possible, or financially does not seem feasible?
Let’s step back for a moment and have you answer out loud to yourself this question, “Are you in charge of your life?”
If you answered yes or believe you can be, even if you are not currently living this way, then you absolutely will be able to lead your life aligned with what you desire.
Leading your life is not a right for only the privileged few; it is a choice for everyone to make and only requires that you know you are in charge, decide to lead your life, and take action steps in the direction of your desires.
All too often, we have allowed life to happen to us, we have accepted what has come our way, we get complacent and comfortable, or are making the best of our situation.
Does that sound thrilling and energizing to you or does it sound like a passenger in a vehicle with a record that keeps skipping? Wake up the leader within and grab the wheel and start driving to the destiny you have always dreamed!
Living and leading your life aligned with your values, strengths, joys, and purpose makes every day an exciting and fulfilling adventure.
If you are sick and tired of living as a passenger and do not feel aligned with where you are at, it’s time to do a personal life leadership assessment.
Lead your Life Aligned with Your Values
Have you ever done a personal values assessment to determine what the top values are for you? Perhaps freedom, family, or health could be top values for you and if you find yourself working a 60-80+ hour week, you will see why you are unhappy because you are not living in alignment with what you value most. It may be interesting and insightful to do a values assessment for your career and one for your life and then compare them as well.
To lead your life aligned with your values answer these questions:
- What are your top 5-10 life values?
- With the values on this list, which make you feel most aligned with your true self?
- What values are you not living by that are in your top 3-5 values and what will you begin to do immediately to change this?
Here is a sample personal values assessment you can take: Go here
Lead Your Life Aligned with Your Strengths
Aligning your life knowing your strengths, let’s you live with ease and feel empowered. When you are not in a job or career that is aligned with your strengths it will feel like a struggle. Knowing what your strengths are and working with these allows you to offer them to others and be of service with them. When you lead your life from your strengths, you feel more confident, experience more success, and live with more fulfillment.
- What are your top 3-5 strengths?
- What have people said you are good at or where have you excelled?
- Are there some not so obvious strengths you may be down playing or not acknowledging that would excite you to use more?

Lead Your Life Aligned with Your Purpose or Passion
Maybe the question of, ‘What is your purpose?’ intimidates you or makes life too serious as it is a loaded question. If knowing your purpose feels too daunting or not right for you, then the better question to answer is, “What are you passionate about?”
When you lead your life aligned with passion or on purpose, it is exciting, rewarding, engaging, and energizing!
What are you passionate about?
What does the vision of your life look like if you were leading it from passion?
Do you feel you have a purpose and do you know what it is?
If you were to lead your life aligned with purpose, what would it look like?
Lead Your Life Aligned with Joy
This is probably one of if not the most important compass to lead your life by and the one I see most often misaligned when people are unhappy.
Why is it we put joy on the bottom of the priority list, or lose complete touch with what brings us joy?
You would be surprised in how many coaching sessions with women, I go to give a personal life leadership assignment and tell them its a doozy and I am not sure if they will be able to do it, and then tell them, it is to add more joy into their every day. The smile, delight, shock, and complete look of utter indulgence and excitement in being told to let joy in that it gives them, is priceless.
Joy is a pure happiness of experiencing something in life that makes our soul sing and dance. It doesn’t need purpose, it just is. It is at the core of your being, an expression of who you are, and the igniting of energy that calls to you to live and experience as much as you will allow it.
What would leading your life aligned with Joy look like?
Are you leading your life in alignment with Joy right now?
How can you lead your life with more joy in it?
Personal leadership is knowing you are in charge of leading your life and taking action to lead it in the direction you desire.
If you are in a place where you may not be happy, or fulfilled, or are experiencing struggle and feel in survival mode rather than empowered and thriving, you can take control and begin to lead your life!
Start here, reflect on the questions above, and then set out the vision of what leading your life aligned with your values, strengths, purpose, and joy would look like. Next step, live it!
